Dr. Marg Wood, DVM
Dr. Marg Wood: The Woman, The Myth, The Veterinary Legend
If there’s anyone who proves that hard work, passion, and a whole lot of caffeine can get you anywhere, it’s Dr. Marg Wood. Raising seven kids while going to school later in life, she mastered the fine art of juggling responsibilities long before she started wrangling patients at the clinic. Now, with grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids in the mix, she’s not just a mom—she’s the CEO of a full-blown family empire (and somehow still finds time to run a veterinary practice).
Dr. Wood has been a veterinarian for 30 years and has owned Parkland Veterinary Clinic for just as long—making 2025 her official 30-year milestone as both a vet and a business owner. That’s three decades of saving animals, guiding pet owners, and proving that sleep is optional when you love what you do. There’s even a running joke that she’ll probably just set up her final resting place at the clinic—but honestly, she’d probably still find a way to run things from there.
Her compassion for both pets and their people is what makes her truly special, and she’s been a rock for the clinic since day one. But when she’s not living and breathing vet life, she’s out exploring the world with her second great love—photography. Whether it’s capturing the perfect shot of a majestic wild animal or just trying to get her own pets to sit still for five seconds, her passion behind the lens is just as strong as the one in the exam room.
Through it all, Dr. Marg remains unstoppable, dedicated, and probably overdue for a vacation—but let’s be real, she’d still find a way to bring work with her!

Dr. Christine Newton, DVM
Dr. Christine Newton: The Pet-Saving, Dragon-Boat-Paddling Powerhouse
Meet Dr. Christine Newton, a veterinarian with a heart as big as her to-do list and a passion for saving animals that borders on superhero status (minus the cape… though we wouldn’t be surprised if she had one tucked away somewhere).
Born and raised under the sunny skies of California, Christine later traded surfboards for textbooks in Missouri, where she earned her veterinary degree. But why stop there? She then packed up her love for pets, her curiosity, and her mildobsession with finding answers and crossed the border to Canada—because saving animals knows no boundaries.
With 32 years of veterinary experience, Dr. Newton has seen it all, treated it all, and probably Googled it all (just to be extra sure). Whether she’s in the clinic or the surgery suite—her happy place—she’s always on a mission to help every creature that crosses her path.
At home, Dr. Newton manages a small rescue zoo of her own:
🐶 Koda the rescue dog, a professional treat thief
🐱 Maka and Luna, the dynamic duo of mischief
🐍 A snake who probably thinks it’s the real boss of the house
Oh, and did we mention she’s also raising four amazing kids? Because being a vet wasn’t impressive enough.
When she’s not performing life-saving surgeries or Googling obscure animal facts, Dr. Newton is out on the water, training for Dragon Boating—yes, that’s a real thing, and yes, she’s awesome at it. In fact, she even competed in Italy in 2024, because saving animals on land just wasn’t adventurous enough.
Dr. Christine Newton: Veterinarian. Mom. Animal savior. Dragon boat racer. Basically, if it sounds epic, she’s probably doing it.

Dr. Don Waterman, DVM
Dr. Don: The Retired (But Not Really) Veterinarian
Dr. Don has been a veterinarian for over 30 years, which means he’s seen it all—from grumpy cats to dogs who think they’re lap-sized (but definitely are not). He even owned his own clinic before deciding to retire… or at least he thought he did. Turns out, retirement is just a fancy word for “taking a short break before getting pulled back into work,” because now he’s part of the team at Parkland Veterinary Clinic.
His love for animals started young, when he lost his family pet and didn’t understand why. Now, he spends his days saving pets instead of saying goodbye—and let’s be honest, that’s way more fun. He’s traveled all the way to Australia(probably to see if kangaroos really do have built-in pockets), but no matter where he goes, his heart is always with animals.
When he’s not at the clinic, you can find Dr. Don enjoying life at the lake, soaking up the outdoors, or passionately yelling at the TV during a hockey game (because, let’s face it, the refs never get it right).
After three decades in the field, he’s still going strong, proving that you can take the vet out of the clinic, but you can’t keep the clinic out of the vet!

Fiona Kowalczyk, RVT
Fiona: The RVT, the Mom, the Chaos Coordinator
For over 20 years, Fiona has been a hardworking RVT, juggling patients, paperwork, and the occasional escape-artist cat like a pro. She loves her job so much that she basically raised her three beautiful children at the clinic—because why not combine parenting with pet care? (Turns out, both involve cleaning up unexpected messes and handing out treats to keep everyone happy.)
Originally, Fiona thought she’d go into human nursing, but then she realized something important: animals complain way less than people. So, she followed her heart (and the fur) straight into veterinary medicine, dedicating herself to both small and large animals—because why settle for one when you can do it all?
When she’s not wrangling patients at the clinic, she’s wrangling cows at home—because apparently, running a busy house, managing a husband, and keeping everyone organized wasn’t challenging enough! Between farm life and clinic life, Fiona is the ultimate multitasker, proving daily that she can handle kids, cows, and chaos—all without spilling her coffee.

Kerry McBride, RVT
Kerry: The Hardworking RVT & Supermom Who Does It All
Kerry knew from day one that her heart belonged to animals—so she made the obvious choice: a career dedicated to them! After graduating from NAIT in 1999, she set out to become the ultimate animal advocate. Now, with 15+ years of experience, she’s the lead RVT at her practice, balancing expertise, compassion, and just the right amount of sarcasm.
Born and raised in Fort McMurray, Kerry eventually moved south, where she built a life filled with hard work, love, and dedication—both at home and in the clinic. As a proud mom to three talented, hardworking kids—Tanner, Brooke, and Haylee—she’s constantly inspired by their achievements in sports and the arts. Their drive and passion match her own, proving that hard work runs in the family.
At home, she’s also got three loyal dogs—Schultzy, Finn, and Odin—who keep life lively and ensure there’s never a dull moment. When she’s not caring for animals or cheering on her kids, you’ll find Kerry in her garden or tending to her indoor plants, enjoying the rare moments of quiet.
With a full schedule, a heart full of love, and a home filled with ambition and wagging tails, Kerry thrives in the best kind of organized chaos—and she wouldn’t have it any other way!

Bailey McKelvey, RVT
Bailey: From Cocktails to Canines—A Wild Ride (with No Pit Stops)
Bailey has moved around more than a lost sock in a laundromat, but when it came time to settle down, she planted her roots firmly in Spruce Grove and dared anyone to try and move her again. Before diving into the world of veterinary medicine, she spent years as a bartender—mastering the fine art of mixing drinks, handling rowdy customers, and pretending to care about people’s life stories (valuable skills that now help her deal with dramatic Chihuahuas and judgmental cats).
Now, with 7 years as a veterinary technologist under her belt, Bailey is thriving in the field—especially in veterinary rehab, where she helps get wobbly pups back on their feet. She’s also continuing her education, constantly expanding her knowledge to provide the best care possible (because, let’s be real, learning never stops when you work with animals).
At home, she’s surrounded by her chaotic but lovable crew: three dogs—Smudge (the perpetually grumpy Pomeranian), Rain (the collie who thinks the world is terrifying), and River (who is just happy to be included). Add in two rescued cats with major main character energy, and life is never dull.
When she’s not fixing up animals, Bailey is balancing life as a supermom to two amazing kids, celebrating her recent engagement, and squeezing in her favorite pastimes—reading, fishing, gaming, and passionately yelling at hockey games like it’s her second job.
Bailey’s life is a whirlwind of fur, fun, and just enough controlled chaos to keep things interesting. It’s busy, it’s wild, but she wouldn’t trade it for anything—except maybe a nap.

Radka Smerekova, RVT
Radka: The Calm, Compassionate Animal Whisperer
From the moment she could walk, Radka was drawn to animals—caring for them, comforting them, and making sure no creature suffered on her watch. This passion led her to NAIT, where she became a registered veterinary technologist in 2012, turning her love for animals into a lifelong mission.
Radka brings a calm and quiet presence to her work, leading with a big heart and a deep sense of compassion. She believes in a holistic approach to life, blending traditional veterinary care with natural healing methods whenever possible. Her dedication to animal well-being extends beyond the clinic, where she finds balance through sound therapy, mindfulness, and time spent in nature.
With the unwavering support of her husband Corey and their two loyal canine companions, Shilah and Xena, Radka thrives in both her career and personal life. When she’s not tending to furry patients, you’ll find her exploring new trails, soaking in the beauty of the outdoors, or embracing the healing power of sound therapy.
Whether she’s caring for animals or recharging in nature, Radka moves through life with compassion, curiosity, and a deep connection to the world around her.

Mariel Lazarini
(Veterinarian in training & Tech Assistant)
Mariel: From Mexico to Canada and Back (and Back Again!)
Mariel’s life has been a bit of a world tour—born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, raised in Atlanta, Georgia, then off to Fort McMurray, Canada (because why not experience all four seasons at once?). Missing home, she made her way back to Mexico… only for Alberta to call her back with something even better—her husband!
With a deep love for both medicine and animals, Mariel became a full-fledged veterinarian in Mexico, and now she’s on a mission to get licensed in Canada (because apparently, moving countries multiple times wasn’t challenging enough). Meanwhile, back home, she has a small army of dogs who are probably still waiting for her to walk through the door at any moment.
When she’s not studying, working, or explaining to people why winter in Canada is a personal attack, Mariel spends her time with her supportive husband, family, and friends. She loves reading, playing board games, and, well… more reading (because why stop at one book when you can have five in progress?).
With her heart in two countries, a passion for animals, and a never-ending list of things to do, Mariel is proof that home isn’t just a place—it’s where your dogs, books, and board games are!

Heather Waters, VPM
(Reception & Account Manager)
Heather: The Vet Clinic’s Unofficial Problem-Solver
Heather never actually planned on working at a veterinary clinic—yet, here she is, years later, still clocking in, still fixing everything, and somehow still not running for the hills. After leaving Manitoba for Alberta, she figured life would take her somewhere new… she just didn’t expect to get stuck at the clinic (in the best way possible, of course).
When she’s not at work being everyone’s go-to problem solver, she’s at home with her 4-year-old dog, Willow, whose full-time job is making sure Heather never sits still. Together, they patrol the yard like it’s a top-secret mission—because you never know when a rogue leaf or suspicious squirrel might need investigating.
Between clinic chaos and Willow’s daily security rounds, Heather’s life is a perfect mix of problem-solving, dog-walking, and wondering how she ended up here in the first place. But hey—she wouldn’t have it any other way! (…Okay, maybe with slightly fewer problems to solve.)

Taylor Kirk, VPM
(Receptionist & Office Manager)
Taylor: Master of Chaos, Animals, and the Art of Management
Taylor spent most of her childhood packing and unpacking boxes, moving so often she practically had a frequent flyer card for changing addresses. But one thing always stayed the same—her love for animals. That passion led her to the clinic, where she’s been wrangling furballs and saving the day for the past 10 years. And recently? She leveled up to manager—which means more responsibility, more paperwork, and probably more “Hey Taylor, can you fix this?”moments than she ever asked for.
At home, she’s got an amazing little girl who keeps her on her toes and a pet lineup that could star in their own reality show. First, there’s the sassy husky, who argues about literally everything. Then there’s the pitbull, whose life goal is to lick and eat everything in sight. And let’s not forget the tiny yorkie, who somehow runs the household despite being the size of a loaf of bread. Rounding out the madness are her three orange cats, each with their own special brand of chaotic, unhinged orange cat energy.
When Taylor isn’t managing a clinic or refereeing her pets, she’s soaking up time with her family, enjoying life, and probably wondering why she ever thought owning three orange cats was a good idea. But hey, at least life is never boring!

Jamie Sweitzer, VMA
(Kennel Staff & Reception)
Jamie: From Kid Animal Whisperer to Vet Assistant Extraordinaire
Jamie’s love for animals started early—basically the moment she could walk, she was off finding, petting, and befriending any creature in sight. After years of working as a day home provider, she finally decided to take the leap and follow her dream of working in the veterinary field. Now, as a vet assistant, she gets to spend her days helping animals (and occasionally talking sense into stubborn ones who refuse to cooperate).
At home, Jamie is surrounded by love and chaos in the best way possible—her three beautiful daughters keep her busy, entertained, and possibly outnumbered in every family decision. She also has a rescued dachshund, Neeva, who overcame an abusive past and now rules the household, and a once-malnourished kitten, Peaches, who struts around like she’s always owned the place.
When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll find Jamie soaking up the outdoors in the summer or hitting the gym—because chasing kids, saving animals, and lifting all those bags of pet food counts as training, right? Life is busy, full, and sometimes covered in fur, but she wouldn’t have it any other way!

Keri-Beth Bellamy
(Assistant, Kennel Staff & Reception)
Keri-Beth: Vet Life, Mom Life, and a Swiftie for Life
Keri-Beth didn’t just fall into the veterinary world—she was practically born with a stethoscope in one hand and a bag of treats in the other. Growing up in a family of animal caregivers, she started volunteering as a kid and, before she knew it, she had officially grown into the clinic (at this point, they might as well put her name on the building). Now settled in her forever town of Spruce Grove, she provides the same love and care to every pet that she would her own—whether they appreciate it or not.
At home, she’s just as busy, juggling life with her two amazing kids, a husband building his own plumbing empire, and a house full of animals with very big personalities. There’s Muffin, the cat whose only ambition is to nap. Eva, the dog who never stops moving and would live outside if allowed. And Wall-E, who is completely obsessed with two things: Keri-Beth and food—and honestly, the ranking changes depending on whether snacks are involved.
When she’s not wrangling pets, kids, or helping her husband build his plumbing business, Keri-Beth can be found fully embracing her Taylor Swift obsession (yes, she knows all the lyrics, and yes, she will sing them). With a deep passion for music, she finds joy in singing, dancing, and probably daydreaming about what era she’s currently in.
Between her clinic family, her real family, and her Swiftie family, Keri-Beth’s life is a whirlwind of animals, music, and just enough controlled chaos to keep things interesting. And honestly? She wouldn’t have it any other way! 🩵🎶🐾

Donna Waterman
(Receptionist)
Donna: From School Bells to Pet Calls
After years of wrangling students as a school teacher and principal, Donna decided to take on a new challenge—wrangling pet owners at the front desk! Now a part-time receptionist, she’s swapped lesson plans for appointment books, but her passion for helping others (both two-legged and four-legged) remains the same.
Married to a veterinarian, Donna’s love for animals runs deep—there isn’t a critter she wouldn’t cuddle, a stray she wouldn’t rescue, or a pet story she wouldn’t happily listen to (yes, even the ones that go on way too long).
When she’s not greeting clients with a warm smile, Donna is out enjoying life at the lake, whether it’s soaking up the sun in summer or embracing the winter wonderland when the temperature drops. She’s proof that retirement doesn’t mean slowing down—it just means more time for adventure, animals, and maybe a little bit of well-earned relaxation!

Addison Adams
(Kennel Staff)
Addison: From Kennels to Pre-Med—Master of Both Worlds
Born and raised in Stony Plain, Addison has always had a high interest in medicine and science, which makes working at the clinic the perfect place to fuel her curiosity (and overhear some truly wild pet stories). As part of the kennel staff, she’s mastered the fine art of cleaning up after every type of animal mess imaginable—which, honestly, is probably great prep for human medicine.
At home, she has two very different dogs: Buddy, the laid-back family pup with a rap sheet of past surgeries long enough to impress any vet, and Ash, the high-energy, anxiety-ridden pup who believes relaxation is a myth.
This fall, Addison is heading into Pre-Med, ready to take on the world of human medicine while still carrying the lessons she’s learned at the clinic—like patience, adaptability, and the importance of a good lint roller. Until then, she’s soaking up all the knowledge, chaos, and occasional cat scratches that come with the job!
